OpenStack : NASA と RackSpace が中心となって、 Open Source の Cloud stack を構築すると発表。

NASA からは CTO of IT の Chris Kemp 氏の行動力、RackSpace からは 2番手だからこそ出せる力が合わさっているので、業界的には面白い事になりそうです。

NASA Nebula はたしか、Eucalyptus から始まって、(たぶん)スケール(追記:とライセンス)の問題があり、独自開発で Nova という OSS Cloud stack を少し前に発表したばっかりでしたね。RackSpace のOZONE と Nova、Cloud files を OSS 化すると。ひょっとしたら、本格的な cloud fabric controller と object storage が Open になるかもしれず。

いささか乱立気味の Cloud 基盤 ですが、RackSpace にとっては、技術基盤が Open Source になっても、長年のホスティング事業でこなれた顧客・業務基盤、また彼らの特徴であるサポートがあるかぎり安泰と。

また、RightScale や enstratus、cloudkick、Opscode、Puppet Labs のような cloud broker もハッピー
